The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test administered by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The sum of the three scores is known as the Selection Index and is used for selection in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship.
The test is composed of three sections: Math, Critical Reading, and Writing Skills, and takes two hours and ten minutes to complete. Each of the three sections is scored on a scale of 20 to 80 points, which add up to a maximum composite score of 240 points.
The test is mostly multiple-choice, but there are 10 open-response math questions that require takers to enter their responses on a grid. Students are allowed to use calculators on the math sections.
